On Friday 31 July, Bridgetown Primary School came together for a wonderful day of learning, connection and celebration for NAIDOC Week.
Our day began with a special NAIDOC assembly, where local Elder Aunty Sue warmly welcomed our students, staff, families and community to Country. A group of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students proudly shared what makes them deadly, before our choir and the whole school joined together to sing Wanjoo, a beautiful welcome song.
Students then worked in their factions and took part in a range of engaging cultural activities, including rock painting, building mia mias, reading How the Birds Got Their Colours and creating nature mandalas using materials from our local environment.
It was fantastic to see so many parents and extended family members joining us for this special occasion. One of the highlights of the day was watching the delightful connections form between our younger and older students as they learned, created and worked together.
